RTFD

Documents that end in RTFD are of the type Rich Text Format Directory. They’re basically rich text documents that support images.

Because they’re the native format of OS X’s TextEdit, they tend to be used for ReadMe files.

Hence this:

Read me.rtfd

Because of this, and because of the extension’s similarity to RTFM, I always see them as: “Read Me — READ THE F#%KING DOCUMENT!”

I’m with you on that one Mark, I read it as, “read the F!@$%!%2 d…” and I just had to finish reading your post to see what it actually meant.

This gave me a chuckle because it reminds me of the old Amiga BBS days. A lot of the PD/shareware files came from Germany, and so you’d end up with a lot of ACHTUNG.1st!!! (readme) type files barking for attention in archives.
